General TAEC
The Tutoring and Academic Engagement Center (TAEC) provides a centralized academic community that empowers students to enhance their learning. Focusing on first- and second-year students, TAEC offers support to bridge subject and skill gaps, strengthen performance in critical coursework, and help undergraduates achieve their educational goals and timely graduation.
Headquartered on the 4th floor of Knight Library, TAEC offers free study skills, writing, language, math, and science support for all undergraduates. Services are available by appointment, drop-in, and study group formats. For more information explore TAEC’s website (https://engage.uoregon.edu/) and follow on Instagram @uoengage.
Academic Coaching
Academic coaches are available for free through the Tutoring and Academic Engagement Center. Academic Coaches support students in reaching their academic goals through collaborative, one-on-one conversations. Students can meet with a coach to refine their academic skills, address challenges, and connect with relevant resources. Learn more on TAEC’s Academic Coaching page.
Math Tutoring
The TAEC tutoring program supports students in achieving their academic goals through personalized and comprehensive peer-led support. Math tutoring services are available through drop-in, appointments and course specific reviews designed to meet the diverse needs of our UO students. Courses supported include most lower-division math. Learn more on TAEC’s Tutoring page (https://engage.uoregon.edu/tutoring/).
Writing Tutoring
TAEC writing tutors provide critical support for UO undergraduates engaged in various writing projects. Students may visit the center for help with course projects and assignments, cover letters, personal statements and more. Tutors are available through drop-in, appointments and our Online Writing Lab (OWL). Learn more on TAEC’s Tutoring page (https://engage.uoregon.edu/tutoring).
Class Encore
Through strategic partnerships with large lecture, highly challenging, major gateway courses, Class Encore provides weekly, peer-led study groups that focus on engaging and collaborative learning environments that enhance participants’ communication and critical thinking skills.
The Peer Leaders have passed the course previously and work to craft opportunities for you to engage with your classmates in activities and problems, helping hone study practices and deepen knowledge in the course. Interested? Registration forms can be found on the Class Encore website. (https://engage.uoregon.edu/class-encore)
For Advisors
TAEC has free academic support for all students at every stage of their academic career, but some of it is particularly relevant for first year when it comes to adjusting to college-level courses. Below you’ll find a general statement to share with new students about TAEC services, talking points about TAEC support, and a PDF handout to orient students to TAEC.
