Designed for campus partners, here’s a one-page overview of services offered through the Tutoring and Academic Engagement Center.

IntroDUCKtion

TAEC has free academic support for all students at every stage of their academic career, but some of it is particularly relevant for first year when it comes to adjusting to college-level courses. Below you’ll find a general statement to share with new students about TAEC services, talking points about TAEC realms of support, and a PDF handout to orient students to TAEC.

The Tutoring and Academic Engagement Center offers all students free academic support at all points in your academic journey. During the academic year, TAEC provides numerous forms of support in math, writing, languages, and the sciences, including 1-1 tutoring, group tutoring, and structured and unstructured study groups, as well as workshops and credit-bearing courses. Talking Points

Content-specific support in math, science, writing, language. Includes:

  • One-on-one tutoring – access this as needed
  • Small Group tutoring – meet regularly with a small group of peers in the same course
  • Class Encore – structured and peer facilitated study group that meets weekly and review challenging topics

Skills and strategies for college-level courses (the how-to and best practices when it comes to navigating academics and getting the most out of class and study time). Includes:

  • Workshops on relevant topics such as time-management, note-taking, and test anxiety
  • Learning Specialists – one-on-one conversations around learning strategies, goal-setting, connecting to appropriate academic resources.
  • Credit-bearing courses to develop study skills in a more sturctured context.
  • Self-directed resources to learn study skills on your own.

Learning Specialists

For students seeking help with long-term learning skills and strategies, consider referring them to our Learning Specialists for an individualized appointment.

To refer a student for a one-on-one appointment with a Learning Specialist, please email either Kenyon Plummer (Math/Science & Study Skills) lplummer@uoregon.edu or Jessa Heath (Writing & Learning Specialist) jessah@uoregon.edu with the name and 95# of the student.

Workshops

TAEC offers a wide variety of workshops that can be tailored to fit your class, program, or organization. To request a TAEC workshop, fill out the form linked below.  We ask that workshops be scheduled at least two weeks in advance.

Due to COVID-19 guidelines set by the University of Oregon, all TAEC workshops will be held in Zoom until further notice.

Please note that workshops will not be available September 18-26 due to conflicts with TAEC programming for incoming students.

General TAEC Statement

Regardless of the course being taught, all students can find something to assist them in their studies with the TAEC.  We invite all faculty and GEs to include this statement in their syllabus.

Class Encore Statement

Teaching a course with Class Encore support? Use this to direct your students specifically to the Class Encore website to register and join our peer-led study groups.

Class Encore is a UO program through the Tutoring and Academic Engagement Center that offers free study groups for specific courses, facilitated by peer Leaders. Leaders have passed the course previously and work to craft opportunities for you to engage with your classmates in activities and problems, helping you hone your study practices and deepen knowledge in the course. Interested? Register here: https://engage.uoregon.edu/class-encore 

Incompletes Support
