Summer Bridge Leader

Do you enjoy interacting with other undergraduates to engage in all the University of Oregon has to offer?  Do you like sharing your academic experiences and talking about how you learned to be a better college student?  If so, apply to become a Summer Bridge Peer Leader.

Summer Bridge Peer Leaders will facilitate small groups of 5-6 incoming first-year students during the 7-day program from September 17th to 24th 2025. Summer Bridge offers three (3) tracks for participants to gain skills and knowledge in that area: Business, Chemistry (Catalyst), and Physics (North Star).

Peer Leaders will participate in three short trainings scheduled in September, prior to the program start (day/time TBD). The goal is to cultivate a sense of belonging within the UO community, explore campus resources, and facilitate learning how to be academically successful and well-balanced undergraduates.

Pay: September Program Stipend – minimum $750

Applications close Friday, May 23rd at 11:59pm PST.

Position Requirements:

  • Attend 1-1.5 hour online trainings in September, day/time TBD.
  • Be available for ALL days of the 7-day program September 17th – 24th, 2024 with no other commitments
    • This means applicants MUST have housing arrangements confirmed prior to program start (Summer Bridge cannot make accommodations for move-in during the program).
  • Complete any assigned asynchronous training in the summer, prior to September 17th start.

Position Qualifications

All Summer Bridge Peer Leaders must:

  • Be a UO undergraduate with a minimum of two completed terms at UO
  • Be in good academic standing with the University of Oregon maintaining a 3.0 GPA
  • Be reliable and dependable
  • Be committed to fostering learning environments where students with a diversity of social identities feel valued and included
  • Have strong interpersonal skills, including a commitment to empathy and understanding
  • Demonstrate strong facilitation skills (needed for guiding participants through activities and experiential learning)

For all Summer Bridge Leaders – Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience as a Summer Bridge Leader or Participant
  • Experience as a peer tutor or peer educator.

Business Track Leaders

  • Pursuing any major within the Lundquist College of Business

Catalyst Track Leaders

  • Pursuing majors in the natural sciences (BI, CH, PHYS)
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge and interest in Chemistry
    • Minimum requirement: successful completion of CH 221-223 or equivalent
  • Preferred qualification: junior or senior in standing

North Star Track Leaders

  • Pursuing physics or related majors
  • Demonstrate knowledge or interest in optics and/or robotics
  • Preferred qualification: prior North Star participant
