How many appointments can I schedule?
In order to best serve all students at UO, tutoring appointments during the regular term are capped at one per day, four total per week. All students may also make two OWL submissions per week and may utilize drop-in hours as often as they like outside of appointments (but may not “stack” end-to-end drop-ins).

Will tutors proofread or edit my paper?
Although our tutors are happy to work with writers on sentence-level concerns like grammar, we are not a proofreading or “fix-it” service that will provide corrections and line-by-line edits. We will work with you to identify specific patterns of grammatical errors, prioritize issues that are impairing flow and clarity, and discuss proofreading strategies. We can also help you locate resources for more assistance.

Do I have to bring a finished draft?
No! Our tutors love working with writers at any stage of the writing process, including brainstorming, outlining, organizing, incorporating evidence, and more.

What if my paper is close to the deadline?
To get the most out of our tutors’ suggestions, we strongly recommend bringing in your work as early as possible. We cannot accept OWL papers submitted less than 48 hours before they are due.  

Is there a page limit?
For papers that are 10+ pages in length, our tutors will not be able to address the entire paper and will concentrate on 7-8 pages or less. For longer pieces, we recommend coming prepared with a specific section that you would like to discuss.  

What can I expect from my tutoring session?
We think of writing as a collaborative endeavor, and we expect writers to be active participants. We love it when you ask questions, tell us your goals for the session, engage with our suggestions, and make notes on your own draft. Our tutors cannot tackle everything in a short time, but we will offer targeted, thoughtful feedback on one or two main areas for improvement.  

What if I am working on a group project?
For group projects, we ask that at least 50% of the group be present to discuss any written components.
